Lotte

Lotte (Yu Xiu)

What do you like about the new village?
I like the fresh air!
What is your favorite movie?
“Chestnut: Hero of Central Park.” It is about a lost puppy that gets “adopted” by two orphan sisters. They try to hide this growing dog in their orphanage.
What do you like about yourself?
I like my long hair.
What job do you think is interesting for your future?
I think a tour guide should be fun. I like to talk, so it suits my personality.
What gives you a sense of satisfaction?
When I do well at school, I feel satisfied.

Lotte is now in 9th grade and school work has never been her forte. Even with the rapidly approaching High School entrance exam, Lotte is hardly studying. It is as if she has given up on herself academically. However, we see some budding talents emerging in her life. Since last year, she has become very good at fixing bikes. Lotte is often seen patiently patching tires or fixing brakes for other girls. She loves food, so naturally she likes to help out in kitchen. Whether she is preparing dumplings(jiaozi), waffles, or fruit salad, her creations are always scrumptious. Recently Lotte is seen diligently practicing jump roping and jogging for many weeks. She is preparing herself faithfully to pass the P.E. exam in mid June. She needs to jump 160 times within one minute! We applaud her new purpose and motivation.

Alex

ALEX (Fumao)

What do you like about the new village?
I like the design and the layout of the family unit. It gives me a feeling of "home." Also I enjoy the new ping pong table in the village.
What is your favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings. I saw it seven times!
What do you like about yourself?
Physically, I like my big muscles. Personality wise, I think I am quite outgoing. Before, when I lived in orphanage, I was quite shy. But since I came to LSV, I've had opportunity to meet people from many countries and I have become more sociable.
What job do you think is interesting for your future?
I am interested in human resources and social work. I am also good at math. I have studied accounting on my own, and even got an accountant certificate. But, as an accountant, I may be asked to falsify the books; so I am still debating...
What gives you a sense of satisfaction?
Playing sports gives me a sense of satisfaction. I enjoy badminton and rock climbing.
Tell us an unforgettable memory.
Three years ago I got accepted to the Changsha Social Work College. Many students were accompanied by their parents. I thought I had to go by myself. To my surprise, LSV did provide a parental representative to fly me to Changsha. I was deeply touched. Of course, my first plane ride was unforgettable too.
Do you have a future dream?
One day I'd like to open a store specializing in wheelchairs. Presently, there are not many choices of wheelchairs in China. I would like to make many different types of wheelchairs available to people with different needs.

Alex (Dang Fumao) is studying at the Social Work College in Changsha, majoring in Social Security Work. In fall 2009, he ranked 3rd in his class and received an award. Alex began his internship with World Vision in Hebei Province in January 2010, and will complete it in May. He came home to LSV during the Spring Vacation to live with his younger brothers and sisters. The played and had a wonderful time together. Alex is now searching for a job, and hopes to serve Chinese society by helping the needy.

Laura

Laura (QIN GUI)

Now that you have moved into the new village, what do you like about it?
I like the spaciousness. We have a large bedroom for only 4 girls. (In dorm at school, I have to share room with 12 girls.)
Favorite movie: I don’t like sad movies. I like happy, funny ones. My favorite is “A Cinderella Story” (not cartoon)
What do you like about yourself?
I am patient. I don’t get upset or angry with people too easily.
What job do you think is interesting for your future?
I am interested in becoming an editor or a disc jockey. But since I am rather quiet, I think to be an editor is more suitable for me.
What gives you a sense of satisfaction?
When I am very busy or stressed out, I like to listen to some music. That takes away my stress and I feel very satisfied right away.

Laura is fifteen now and always looks neat and tidy. With her pleasant personality, she is well liked at school and home. After moving to the new village, Laura seems much happier and relieved that she has more personal space. We see her smiling more readily. She is really enjoying her dorm life and always is eager to go back to school. As a 9th grader, Laura is a conscientious student, studying diligently for the entrance exam, looking forward to getting into high school next year.

Florence

Florence (SHI YUAN)

Now that you have moved into the new village, what do you like about it?
I really enjoy the new solar heated shower. It’s really nice. We have more shower stalls so we don’t have to wait so long.
Favorite book: Primary school composition reference book.

What do you like about yourself? I like being a good friend to others.
What job do you think is quite interesting? I think a teacher’s work is interesting.
What gives you a sense of satisfaction? When I can solve a difficult math problem, I feel satisfied!

This summer Florence showed great interest in cross stitching and sewing small stuffed animals. After each successful finished piece, she moved on to the next one. She was so motivated that, by the end of summer, she completed more crafts than any other girl. There were 14 projects in all! Her sewing skills improved considerably and she had great sense of accomplishment. School has never been easy for Florence, but this fall we see a new determination to improve her studies. She does not want to just “get by” like before. Interestingly, Florence answered her “favorite book” was the composition reference book. Indeed we have seen great improvement in her compositions.

Song: 活石 Living Stones

* Listen to the Song

Living Stones - lyric

By our family, we are forsaken.
By our Lord, we have been chosen.
Your loving mercy embraces us.
Your mighty power transforming our lives.
You give us voice to praise your Holy name.
You give us body to offer back to You.
You give us life, our lives belong to You.
Cause we are the chosen living stones.
Living stones - Holy Living Stone
Living stones - children of Abba
